Take a second and think about it, does worrying take up more than 5 minutes. Less than 5 minutes. Or an indefinite amount of your waking time in a day?
Worry, has in fact become so much a part of many of our lives, a habit so to speak, that many of us are unaware of its effects on us physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Not only is it draining, it’s almost never ending. One worry is almost always linked to another worry, which is to another, and before we know it, some of us are awake through the night, worrying. Leaving one tired, irritable and restless the next day. Affecting our relationships at work and among our cherished family members. Not to mention, a string of complaints at the clinic.
Fortunately, worry can be minimized effectively, promoting a healthier, happier outlook to life, a better utlitisation of your time and more harmony not just for your mind and body. But in your relationships with others as well.
The first step is self-awareness. If you think you’re prone to worrying, figure out what are the causes of it. What triggers off the worry? Is it related to the past or to the future. You’ll discover, many of our worries are never related to the present moment, but linked intrinsically with another time altogether.
The second step is acceptance. Acceptance means taking things the way they are positively. Realising that certain issues cannot be solved by worry and alone but by simply accepting them, we lessen the burden on our shoulders. Worrying is rarely the solution. And almost, always leads to negative consequences like sleep disturbances, changes in blood pressure, friction in our relationships, etc. Positive thinking is a great way to curb worrying tendencies and with practice, can promote health, harmony and happiness.
The third step is action. Finding ways to lessen worry and reduce stress. Today, with stress related problems on the rise, there are an equal number of effective treatments available in the market, or right at home. Starting from talking to a close friend or a counselor who can offer you objective advice. To exercise which help reduce stress. To meditation, yoga and other alternative healing platforms that promote inner peace and offer you a holistic perspective to things. Reiki, pranic healing, acupressure and massage are just few examples of lessening the stress within. And which have worked successfully for thousands of people across the world.
Eliminating worry is difficult, requires dedication and a willingness to understand and change one’s own attitudes towards issues and circumstances. It can be done successfully. Leaving you with more time to enjoy life’s precious moments, and live in harmony in the present moment.
